For a sub £1000 bike I don't think it can be beaten. Before I opted for the Trek I had tried the Specialized AllezElite and a Roubaix,(which was more expensive and carbon) also a Giant SCR and an Orbea. The Specialized Allez was heavy, not just obviously in weight but the bike didnt seem to climb or respond as well, this was the same for the Giant. The componentry was better also with complete Bonty setup and Shimano 105. If I had one complaint I think I would change the chainrings as the Shimano ones do seem a little soft. All in all, the 1.7 rides extremely well with good componentry for this price range. Buy the 08 version though, porbably pick it up at a bargain price now the 09's out.
