Genesis Bikes Since the introduction of the first Ridgeback 25 years ago, the influence of American brands has tended to eclipse that of home grown machines. However in terms of today's bikes and riding style it's clear that 'UK' design is back in a big way.
Creating bikes exclusively for UK riders established Ridgeback's reputation for innovation - the Ridgeback 'GENESIS' series of mountain bike-inspired, flat bar road bikes is seen as one of the last significant developments in cycle genres.
From the time of their launch five years ago the award winning GENESIS flat bar road bikes have enjoyed consistent success, demonstrating healthy demand for bikes that are different from the competition and targeted to meet a specific need.
More than just a flat bar road bike, GENESIS now offers a range of mid to high end performance road and mountain bikes with all the high quality design ingredients you know and expect from Ridgeback.
The evolution of GENESIS from series to brand is a natural progression.
Genesis Vapour Meticulously constructed using large diameter, thin wall triple butted 6066 aluminium the Vapour's light and stiff frame offers an exceptionally smoothly ride, a characteristic enhanced by the carbon fibre fork and seat post.
There's also plenty of clearance for the Continental Speed King tyres. Secondary top mount brake levers, compact 48/34T chainset and top-tube cable routing are all Cyclo-cross racing benchmark specifications. When a bike is designed to perform this well in really filthy conditions, imagine how well it rides on fast, dry trails. Click here for full spec for the Genesis Vapour Genesis Flyer Constructed using a close clearance Reynolds 520 double butted Cr-Mo tubeset and no-crimp chainstays, the Flyer has a highly efficient drive-train response whilst the specification of a gently raked carbon fork ensures an overall ride that's truly sublime.
A flip-flop rear hub makes it easy to switch to 'fixed' and the 48/18 transmission gives a real-world useable gear. Shimano Sora brakes stop you as fast as the Flyer can accelerate.
Size-specific geometry maintains rider position and wheelbase equilibrium to keep the ride as lively as possible while maintaining accurate and consistent cornering traits. Sprinting out of corners rewards with a lively response whilst steady riding benefits from added comfort and smoothness. The heart of the bike is a Reynolds 853 frame constructed to our unique UK trail geometry. Tougher than an XC racer yet not overbuilt either, the Altitude 2.0 benefits from oversized thin wall tubes that twist less from steering input. This creates a frame with a great overall response while preserving the compliant ride quality only a top grade steel frame can offer.
The best possible parts mix is topped off with a Titanium alloy rail saddle, a weight-saving aluminium fork steerer tube and Kevlar beaded folding tyres.

As a great handling bike tends to take a few knocks, the Altitude 1.0 has our unique part-welded, part-brazed down tube gusset.
