Excellent. very stable on my MX5, and I anticipate will be usedon other vehicles. Like all bike carriers of its type can be fiddly to set up and put onto/remove from the vehicle, but once in place is an excellent product. Worth getting the "hatch-huggers" recommended on the Saris web site. Speeds cycles price is very competitive and their delivery/availability/helpfulness can't be beaten.
The rack itself is great, and I can see it would be perfect for normal road bikes. Maybe best for only two as the bikes have to be pretty close together to fit 3. My husband has a full sus bike and we have tried and tried to fit it after reading previous reviews that say it can be done! I can get the bike on the rack on the outside clips, but can't use the strap that should hold the upright to keep the bike secure. Plus my daughters bike is small so has to go on the outside clips as the frame isn't wide enough to go over the arms to get to the back. So I'm going to have to buy two false cross bars to fit both those bikes onto the rack. (Extra £40) Plus it covers the reg plate on both my focus and husbands Octavia so will have to buy a light board. Having said that, this is the only rack on the market that will fit husbands car - it has a spoiler, so we are stuck with the extra costs.
I did a bit research on the Saris Bones 3 as a replacement for my Halfords rack. It cost more than I would normally consider paying though after a very quick delivery from Speeds Cycles (and the best internet price!) and fitting, I have no regrets. If you're in the market for a stylish, practical, cycle rack that's easy to fit you can't go wrong with the Bones 3. I paid for this item at 15:30 monday afternoon after I missed an item on eBay. For 20 quid more than a second hand rack it was delivered brand new the following morning, how it got here so quick I have no idea. Top marks for a speedy service.
The rack fitted to our car safely and securely after a couple of attempts to get the right geometry. I have reservations about the the clips that fit to the boot as I expect they would do slight damage to paint on the edge or underside if not careful. I will put some tape where they will contact the boot for extra security.
We are off to centre parc soon and I will know just how good this rack is by then.
I bought the Bones on a Sunday and it turned up a couple of days later - so well done speed cycles for prompt delivery! Also speed cycles were the cheapest anywhere for this prioduct undercutting others by at least £20 and with free delivery. The product itself seems fab - i have given it 4 stars as i havent had chance to put the bike on it yet but i have put it on the car and out my full weight on it and ponce i readjusted the legs, the top arms didnt budge off the wondow which was my fear. Its made of very sturdy stuff and folds back flat for storage. i have a 58 plate fiesta (old model) and it fits perfectly. The straps (there are 3 straps that are double ended) are all labelled to make it easier. The only problem i can foresee after a few uses is the plastic screws but am happy to find out my product has a lifetime gaurentee and assume these will be covered under it.! thanks speed cycles am impressed all round!!!
Excellent rack, fits a wide range of cars, perfect if you're looking to fit a rack to fit over a rear spoiler. Very sturdy design, quick & easy to assemble & disassemble. Can be a bit of a tight squeeze trying to the arms through downhill frames, but managed to get a giant glory & an orange patriot on there no probs.
The guys at Speed Cycles are really helpful and offer brilliant service at a great price
